Some readers may be excited by this hack – spoilers are a big deal in some circles, and some really dislike HBO. However, before you get to excited, please consider this: A hack is almost never just about content.
Consider this quote from the article:
Reporters received an anonymous email on Sunday from the hackers that read: “Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling.”
HBO is falling. Personal feelings on HBO aside, when hackers set out to destroy a company, for whatever reason, it’s bad for all.
Remember the Sony hack? That lead to many people losing personal data. It lead to job loss, revenue loss, and a ton of issues. And those issues weren’t only felt by the C-Suite. Regular people were affected.
