Holiday Week Safety Tip #2: Avoid The Secret Sister Gift Exchange

This Pyramid scheme derivative is inventive, and it seems pretty innocuous, but it’s not.

Nutshell: This scam (mostly targeted to women) asks people to buy one $10 gift and send it to a secret sister. In return, the buyer is promised 6-36 gifts.

Seems legit, right? Nope. This Indy Star article does a great job showing the 7 reasons why you want to avoid this and other like scams.

Pyramid schemes aren’t going away. Scams aren’t going away. There will be more variations of this theme, and the holiday season is a great time for crooks to go for your money (and potentially put you in legal gray area).

Stay safe out there, and avoid these types of scams.
